ENOUGH WAITING.
IT’S TIME TO MAKE
HIRING FAIR.
ENOUGH WAITING.
IT’S TIME TO MAKE
HIRING FAIR.
Hiring is inconsistent. It’s often unclear. And for many, it’s unfair. Let's change that...together. This network brings together people across the UK — job seekers, employees, and hiring advocates — to raise the standard of fair hiring.
While many initiatives focus solely on salary transparency, Fair Hiring Network addresses the entire hiring journey. This is not a corporate-led compliance exercise. It’s a people-powered movement advocating for transparency, accountability, and respect. As a collective voice, together we pledge put this right.
100 reasons to get behind this.

Fair Hiring Network is an independent organisation powered by the people themselves—a community of jobseekers, employees, HR practitioners, and advocates who share experiences, insights, and voices to shape the future of work.
Launching with UK Jobseekers Interview Experience Survey, the goal is to uncover what today’s job market is really like to navigate.
While many join from first hand experience of the hiring process, the network is open to anyone committed to fairness, transparency, and accountability in recruitment, driving collective action for a better, more equitable system.
The aim is simple: to map the reality of the recruitment process through lived experience and drive meaningful change. By listening, documenting, and amplifying the perspectives of real candidates, greater transparency, opportunity, and trust across the UK job market is possible.
The pillars of Fair Hiring Network are:
The Fair Hiring Network isn’t just a project—it’s a movement of people banding together to ensure that every candidate’s experience shapes a more equitable, people-focused, respectful recruitment process.
Economic uncertainty, AI screening, skills shortages, insecure work, and complex application processes are leaving many capable people locked out of opportunity.
Opaque and impersonal recruitment breaks down trust — not only for candidates, but for employers and the wider economy. Fair hiring is not just a workplace issue. It is a social and economic one.
Without change, talent is wasted, inequality widens, and confidence in the system erodes.
From misleading job advertisements that overstate responsibilities or perks, to salary omissions or reductions that don’t reflect the skills and experience required, the system can feel stacked against applicants.
Candidates frequently experience ghosting, with no feedback after interviews, or are asked to complete pre-employment exercises that don’t align with the actual role. Often, roles are misaligned, hunting for “top talent” while the job in practice is very different.
These issues highlight systemic problems in job search, interview processes, and hiring practices, making it harder for skilled candidates to navigate the journey and secure fair opportunities.

This is not about naming and shaming employers — it’s about giving jobseekers a voice, raising awareness, and supporting evidence-based improvements in recruitment. Every survey response is a “check-in” on the journey, helping to chart the route toward a UK job market that is fair, respectful, and transparent. By sharing your experiences, you help highlight what works, what doesn’t, and where change is most needed. Expose the issue. Not the employer.
To explore and document the real experiences of UK jobseekers, uncovering the challenges and barriers in today’s recruitment process. By turning lived experiences into evidence-based insights, the Fair Hiring Network drives transparency, accountability, and a recruitment system that works for everyone.
A UK job market where every jobseeker feels informed, respected, and empowered at every stage—from clear and accessible job adverts to transparent applications and thoughtful communication throughout interviews. The Fair Hiring Network envisions a system where opportunity is equal, experiences are valued, and recruitment truly works for people.
Some job advertisements overstate responsibilities or perks, giving jobseekers unrealistic expectations and creating confusion in the application process. Have you come across misleading job adverts? Roles often look appealing on paper but don’t match the actual day-to-day work. This mismatch can waste valuable time and energy for candidates navigating a competitive job market.
Roles are frequently advertised with salaries lower than the skills and experience they demand, making it harder for jobseekers to secure fair compensation. This can result in discouragement during the job search and undervaluing of professional expertise. Transparent hiring practices including salary transparency in job adverts would allow applicants to make informed decisions about applying.
Jobseekers often encounter role requirements that don’t reflect the reality of the work involved. Positions can ask for “top talent” in areas that aren’t central to the job, leaving candidates uncertain about suitability. Misaligned expectations also make the interview process more stressful and less fair.
Some employers request lengthy or irrelevant pre-employment tasks that don’t - or loosely - relate to the actual role. This creates unnecessary barriers and can discourage talented jobseekers from completing the application process. Fair and transparent assessments would make hiring practices more equitable.
Ghosted After an Interview? A common frustration in job search is ghosting, where applicants receive no feedback after interviews or applications. Lack of communication leaves jobseekers in limbo and adds anxiety to the journey. Improved transparency in interview processes would help candidates feel respected and informed.
Applicants often feel pressure to shape their experience or personality to fit perceived company culture. Jobseekers may downplay strengths or tailor answers unnaturally, which can affect authenticity during interviews. A fair interview process should allow individuals to showcase their true abilities.
Many jobseekers never understand how they were evaluated during recruitment. The hiring process is often unclear, and scoring criteria are rarely shared. This opacity undermines trust and leaves applicants uncertain about how to improve in future job search efforts. Have you been asked to complete unpaid interview tasks?
Interview stages can be inconsistent, confusing, or poorly explained, leaving jobseekers unsure of expectations. Lack of clarity in hiring practices creates stress and reduces confidence. Clear guidance at each stage would greatly improve the job application journey. Ever discovered the job role is different in interview than advertised?
Jobseekers can feel overwhelmed navigating the job search and may struggle to meet demanding and unrealistic expectations. Clear, honest communication about role demands would improve fairness and trust in hiring practices. Have you had a bad recruitment experience?
Inspired by one woman’s journey through the UK job market, the Fair Hiring Network was founded to explore the real experiences of jobseekers and use those insights to make recruitment more transparent, accountable, and people-centred.
