My career has spanned the globe. I have lived and worked in Australia, the Philippines, Guatemala, and Venezuela. I was a true globetrotter, progressing my career in travel and tourism, and for the most part the world was my oyster.
I have worked with leading hospitality and travel brands, specialist tour operations, joined the team for the launch of world’s first luxury private train crossing the Trans-Siberian Railway, and I ran my own public relations agency specialising in travel for just shy of a decade. My career was full of adventure, challenge, and creativity.
Then came the COVID pandemic. The world went into lockdown, and my agency — like many businesses — faced unprecedented (oh...there's that word again...rearing its ugly head) times. The past business model, clients, and contracts all became fragile. The world had stopped it seemed, and so had my income. Suddenly, the agency became me, myself and I just trying to 'do the right thing' for the agency's clients at an impossible time. I learned more in those two years than in decades prior, but eventually, as the world opened up the recovery was too slow and I threw in the towel — flip-flops, sunscreen, beach bag and all!
So there I was, and aside contract work, there I still am... looking for my dream job. And here’s the irony: someone who had travelled the world, led teams, launched global projects, and built businesses has found the modern job market almost un-navigable.
Ghosting, hidden salaries, presentations galore, tests, trials and truly nightmarish experiences of job hunting. I’ve faced pockets of the good, a bucket-load of the bad, and some truly unbelievable, ugly experiences in the job search.
That’s why the Fair Hiring Network was born—for everyone.
